Coos County

Coos Bay : (Gold & Platinum)

Economic Geology of the Platinum Metals, Geological Survey Professional Paper 630, GPO, 1969, p100 : The beach sands at the mouth of the Coos River contain placer gold and platinum. This was probably the richest beach placer deposit found in Oregon. The Oregon beach deposits were discovered in 1852, and those of a higher grade were soon exhausted, yet many of them were worked intermittently for years afterward.

See Pacific Beaches for further details.
