We will attempt to bring you information and offers on things we find educational, interesting and useful. For each product or group of products we will tell you, in a sentence or two or a short paragraph, why it is here and why we find it appropriate. We will dedicate this page to books which we feel may be especially helpful.

If you have suggestions for additions to this list please feel free to let us know. If we might identify you by your web name and country, state, county and/or city in the recommendation, please let us know. I believe personalization always adds a nice touch. Please keep any suggestions in good taste. Remember, this is intended as a family site.

Amazon : I view Amazon as the “Big Guy” of book sales. They offer probably the greatest variety of subject categories and topics ad have the greatest number of books available of any site that I know of. Below is a link to the main site and some specific recommendations by our readers. This section will always be “a work in progress” as books are added and deleted.

Specific Suggestions: (Arranged by geographical area) By the way, let me apologize in advance. Until we have linked the individual books suggested below you will have to go to Amazon by clicking on the "banner" above and then going to the individual suggested book name or author name. We are still learning how to work their system. Soon, clicking on the book title will bring up an information box for the book; then you will be able to click on the title, and it will take you directly to the Amazon page, and review, if one has been done.

The Mojave Road Series is a very interesting, historical rendition, of the route through the desert used by many early immigrants to California. Explorers in this area may find useful background information and stories that can greatly add to your experiences in the field. The Gold Road to La Paz identifies some sections of the road that can still be followed today. For example about a 70-mile long segment, lying primarily on BLM land, runs from the Salton Sea State Recreation Area, near Dos Palmas, eastward to Wiley's Well Campground, near the Mule Mountains. The series is fascinating, and if you can find the books at reasonable prices, worth reading. The newest, and easiest to get is the 1999 Edition of the Mojave Road Guide: An Adventure Through Time . Many (marked *), I am pretty sure are currently out of print, but periodically come up for auction as used books. The series includes:
