About The Weekend Miner
You have entered a "data mine" and, as with any prospect
or mine, unless you
find
something of interest or value you will quickly move on. We ask
that you
give
us a few minutes of your time to see if we may be able to save you
years of
yours.
The Weekend Miner is a web site dedicated to allowing you
to do some
preliminary "prospecting" from your computer. The
Weekend Miner is
intended to allow you to find the location, and in many cases a
lot more, of
historical and current mining sites. This web site will be focused
on the creation
of a database that will easily (the operative term here being "easily")
allow you
to search (first of all) the counties of California and and then,
later on, those of
all the "Western Mining States." We will also post on
the web site what we
believe to be timely topics of interest as well as thoughts and
ideas related to
mining written by our own "curmudgeon of the rocks, Old
John." His first
column posted below will be used to further elaborate and explain
the web site.
So that we don't take any more of your time than is necessary, we
give you our:
Mission Statement: This web site is dedicated to the "spirit
of the prospector"
that resides in all of us. The desire to negotiate with the Earth
for its riches,
extract them in a responsible manner, and to benefit our families,
our country,
society in general and ourselves by the fruits of such labors. This
is the spirit we
see in The Weekend Miner.
Our web site will endeavor to provide useful information to those
who embrace
such ideas. We do not plan to engage in mining ourselves, so we
will have no
incentive to keep the "good data" to ourselves. What we
have discovered and
what we will discover in the future will be published here.
We view the web site as a "work in progress" and plan
continual updates. We
will start with a few counties in California and ultimately expand
our coverage
to the entire Western United States as time and resources allow.
We encourage
and solicit comments, input, and observations from our readers to
guide us in
making the site more useful to you, our readers.
We wish you the best of luck in finding riches in whatever form
you seek.
Whether that be gold nuggets or a golden weekend exploring and communing
with nature. Most of all we want you to keep yourselves safe. Remember
mining, spelunking, and exploring can be dangerous activities. In
the words of
the desk sergeant from the old "Hill Street Blues"--"be
careful out there!"
And now: On to the site.

"0" first,
because it explains
how this site is organized and how to navigate it.
